Retreats
We have been finalizing details for a guys retreat and a young ladies retreat for those aged 14-19. The ladies retreat is scheduled for Oct. 19-21, the guys retreat for Oct. 26-28. These retreats are part of our Worldview and Apologetics Youth – WAY – ministry, which is anchored by our annual Eastern Ontario WAY Camp.
The ladies will be looking at over 20 danger signs of marrying the wrong guy. This will be based on teaching by a nouthetic counsellor. Nouthetic counselling is an explicitly Biblical model of counselling. Their retreat will be held in upstate New York. The men will be looking at three dangers to young men from J.C. Ryle’s short book, Thoughts for Young Men. One of his chapters deals with five dangers to young men – pride, the love of pleasure, thoughtlessness, contempt of Christianity and the fear of man’s opinion. We will be looking at three of them. Their retreat will be held in Eastern Ontario, west of Ottawa. Stay tuned for more details. Read more... (722 words, estimated 2:53 mins reading time)

Yes, it’s true. Following the protracted and painful revelation of the systemic abuse of First Nations children who were the “residents” in Canada’s now-infamous residential schools, another group of First Nations survivors are coming forth. They are the former students who attended classes in the residential schools without actually being residents. Canada has conducted hearings and investigations into the allegations of the abuse of residential school students and has issued apologies and granted token compensation to the victims who actually resided at the schools. However, other students who may have experienced similar abuse have not yet been compensated because they attended classes during the day but slept in their own beds at night. Read more... So, somebody tried to shoot up the Family Research Council!
I read an article yesterday which reported on an apparent trend of America being under attack from right-wing terrorists, which the Miami Herald writer also called “white Christian men.” Read more... (1438 words, estimated 5:45 mins reading time)

How do we get real health care reform?
An Ontario woman is fighting for patients’ rights, arguing that age, illness or disability should not preclude the best possible medical care. As an Ottawa Citizen article this week reports, she’s the daughter of an Ottawa man who died last month after a doctor at the Ottawa Hospital won the right to withhold life-prolonging treatment. What do we do with the United Church?
I have not been paying much attention to the death throws of the United “Church” of Canada. They have been holding their 41st General Council meetings in Ottawa this past week. They have been generating controversy over some of their position statements, especially one against Israel. Read more... (399 words, estimated 1:36 mins reading time)

Below is a brief excerpt from Leaving God Behind. We expect to be able to send the final proof to the printer next week so they can prepare a draft version of the book for us to approve. It is exciting to be able to make this important work available to Canadians. When we see what God has done in this nation in the past, we will hopefully be inspired to believe God for great things in the future. Read more... (337 words, estimated 1:21 mins reading time)

It’s rather annoying to see silly headlines like “Religion in retreat, global poll suggests” in today’s papers. The Reuters story begins: “Traditionally Catholic Ireland has registered almost the steepest drop worldwide in people calling themselves religious in a new survey tracking international trends in faith and atheism in recent years.” Read more...
