So, somebody tried to shoot up the Family Research Council!
I read an article yesterday which reported on an apparent trend of America being under attack from right-wing terrorists, which the Miami Herald writer also called “white Christian men.”
Once again, Statistics Canada, using info generously contributed by police forces across the country, has issued this reassuring statistical commentary: “Canada’s crime rate in 2011 lowest since 1972” Who’s fooling whom? How many Canadians feel safer today than last year? Or the year before that? Or twenty years before that? The death of innocents still features in the news and the ringing of bullets still echoes in the consciousness of Canadians from the Eaton’s shootings, the Scarborough backyard party gone ballistic and the Colorado “Batman” shootings.
Over 100 days have passed since (some) Quebec university students took to the streets to demand that their tuition fees (the lowest in Canada) be kept at their unsustainable levels. Quebec’s efforts to raise rates by $350 per year to achieve—after 5 years—the lowest rates in the country (?) have been viciously attacked by a collage of students, professors, strident unionists and would-be Marxists reliving the unfinished escapades of a deprived youth they never experienced.
