Supreme Court dismisses application for review of males-only job posting
The Supreme Court of P.E.I. has dismissed an application for judicial review filed by the P.E.I. Union of Public Sector Employees over the posting of males-only employment positions for addiction services. In a 19-page decision written by Supreme Court Justice Gordon Campbell, the court agreed with the findings of an arbitration board which dismissed two grievances filed by the union in this matter. Gulf State Governors Call for a Day of Prayer on Sunday

Alabama Gov. Bob Riley started a much-needed trend today when he called for a Day of Prayer on Sunday, in response to the BP oil disaster. “Throughout our history, Alabamians have humbly turned to God to ask for His blessings and to hold us steady during times of struggle,” Riley said. “This is certainly one of those times.” The governors of Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi immediately followed suit.  Read more... Quebec to appeal ruling on religious course

The Quebec government plans to appeal a court ruling that found its imposition of a province-wide ethics and religion course on a private Catholic school “totalitarian” and unconstitutional. The scathing decision issued on Friday by Quebec Superior Court Justice Gerard Dugre was a victory for Montreal’s Loyola High School, a Jesuit boys’ school that has objected to the controversial course since its 2008 introduction.  Read more...
