An Adequate Deterrent
By Jim Hnatiuk, Leader of the Christian Heritage Party
It’s difficult to imagine that any sane, or insane person for that matter, could systematically bomb, stalk, shoot and kill 93 people, most of which were teenagers at a summer camp. Then for the perpetrator to have the audacity to tell the court, “I wish to apologise to all militant nationalists that I wasn’t able to execute more.”

We came across an article written by OPC Pastor Larry Wilson in a publication which reprinted it this summer. The context for the article was to challenge the dangerous practice of proof-texting from the Bible to make an argument. The topic Pastor Wilson chose was whether or not the United States was a Christian nation. The Scripture passage he referenced was 2 Chronicles 7:14. Though the purpose for the article was proof-texting, the question discussed of whether or not America is a Christian nation, provided another excellent opportunity for rebuttal. I offer a rebuttal below, raising questions about the credibility of Pastor Wilson’s arguments, and offering a more compelling Christian position. Click here to read Pastor Wilson’s article: ‘Patriotic’ pretexting – Larry Wilson – August 2012. Let us provide the introductory paragraphs, so that you have some idea of where he was going even if you don’t take a moment to look at his entire article.

Pastor and his wife assaulted by mob in Sri Lanka
(Source: World Evangelical Alliance)
A pastor and his wife were attacked in Deniyaya, Sri Lanka, while returning home after visiting a church member. A large mob of around 40 men, accompanied by five Buddhist monks and the assistant secretary of the local government authority, approached the pastor and his wife shouting, “attack them,” “kill them.” The pastor was then assaulted and accused of spreading Christianity in the area.

In recent days, I’ve been engaged in some interaction on these pages and elsewhere on the question of how explicit our confession of faith, our confession of the Lordship of Christ, should be when it comes to our public lives. Application to “politics” always seems to be the most controversial area of this discussion.

Christian Heritage Nonsense
By Jim Hnatiuk, Leader of the Christian Heritage Party
Have you ever experienced attempts to belittle you, either overtly or by a subtle roll of the eyes, because you choose to support the Christian Heritage Party of Canada? I have certainly experienced this and oftentimes wished I had a short, sweet, and effective answer to these pathetic attempts to dissuade me from my beliefs and deter me from my goals.
The ladies will be looking at over 20 danger signs of marrying the wrong guy. This will be based on teaching by a nouthetic counsellor. Nouthetic counselling is an explicitly Biblical model of counselling. Their retreat will be held in upstate New York. The men will be looking at three dangers to young men from J.C. Ryle’s short book, Thoughts for Young Men. One of his chapters deals with five dangers to young men – pride, the love of pleasure, thoughtlessness, contempt of Christianity and the fear of man’s opinion. We will be looking at three of them. Their retreat will be held in Eastern Ontario, west of Ottawa. Stay tuned for more details.
