ChristianGovernance eletter – November 2, 2012
The American election season along with my readings in Acts have really helped to focus my thinking on the glorious rule and majestic reign of Jesus Christ over His creation and His Church.
We need to drink – and drown if necessary - in the amazing vision of God’s sovereign rule in the Scriptures instead of wallowing in fear and despondency by constantly gazing at the corruption and wickedness around us.
We came across an article written by OPC Pastor Larry Wilson in a publication which reprinted it this summer. The context for the article was to challenge the dangerous practice of proof-texting from the Bible to make an argument. The topic Pastor Wilson chose was whether or not the United States was a Christian nation. The Scripture passage he referenced was 2 Chronicles 7:14. Though the purpose for the article was proof-texting, the question discussed of whether or not America is a Christian nation, provided another excellent opportunity for rebuttal. I offer a rebuttal below, raising questions about the credibility of Pastor Wilson’s arguments, and offering a more compelling Christian position. Click here to read Pastor Wilson’s article: ‘Patriotic’ pretexting – Larry Wilson – August 2012. Let us provide the introductory paragraphs, so that you have some idea of where he was going even if you don’t take a moment to look at his entire article.

Now ‘under God’ dropped from Gettysburg Address!: ‘We now have positive evidence they know exactly what they are doing’
By Bob Unruh
Barack Obama twice in recent days has dropped from a quotation from the Declaration of Independence a reference to the “Creator,” and now a columnist at First Things has documented how a self-described “leading progressive legal organization” has simply dropped “under God” from the Gettysburg address.

The Forgotten Clauses of the Magna Carta
By Gary DeMar
Our commentary today is a response to a couple of items from the recent Cardus e-letter. We, especially as a young organization, would prefer to avoid direct disagreement with other Christians, but these articles provided a useful context for driving home some of the key views advocated by ChristianGovernance, Biblical positions that we may be unique in bringing forward to the public square.

Zealots and lunacy
By Mindelle Jacobs
In many respects, we’re more educated, compassionate, tolerant and open-minded than ever before. But, some days, I can’t help thinking that it’s one step forward and two steps backward for the human race.
Tragically, the answer for most modern Christians would probably be the type of tyranny (or moral anarchy) exemplified by Tony Blair below. So many modern WeEstern Christians are terrified of the rule of God and kingly reign of Christ. The devil they know is prefered to the God they don’t know…
What is Jesus in the City?
The Jesus in the City Parade is a live musical street pageant of worshippers and paraders costumed as biblical characters opening the Bible through the arts and worship. Floats staging live bands and choirs move along downtown streets. Banners of the books of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation are raised as participants wearing colorful parade T-shirts sing and dance spreading the message of hope, love, peace and joy of salvation.
