Last week, mainstream media outlets churned out socialist boilerplate rhetoric with days of commentary declaring that the lack of building codes to blame for the extent of Haiti’s earthquake crisis. ”Poor building codes, perfect-storm earthquake led to massive destruction in Haiti, experts say,” declared the LA Times. “Problems with Haiti building standards outlined,” announced CNN. I first caught the story by watching supposedly conservative Fox News spouting the same rhetoric.
