The lawyer representing Justice Lori Douglas, the prominent Manitoba judge whose husband allegedly posted nude photos of her on an Internet porn site, says the much-publicized lawsuit brought against her should be thrown out. Michael Green says the statement of defence filed by his client asks for the $67-million lawsuit launched by Alex Chapman against Judge Douglas, her husband, and a Winnipeg law firm to be dismissed because “it doesn’t set out any any valid claim.” “It doesn’t divulge any cause of action known to man,” Mr. Green said in an interview on Tuesday.

The personal lives of Judge Douglas and her husband, family lawyer Jack King, became headline news this month when Mr. Chapman, a Winnipeg computer programmer, launched a lawsuit against the couple and the law firm Thompson Dorfman Sweatman. Mr. Chapman, 44, hired Mr. King in 2002 to represent him during his divorce proceedings, during which time Mr. King is alleged to have shown Mr. Chapman nude photos of his wife in an attempt to entice him to have sex with her. The lawyer has said that he acted without his wife’s knowledge and that he was suffering from depression at the time. Mr. Chapman then complained to Thompson Dorfman Sweatman, and signed a confidentiality agreement with Mr. King in exchange for $25,000.
