Subject: Good News re Mammolitis Motion to Revoke Funding
Good news: after a very tense time in the City Hall Council Chambers today – Georgio Mammoliti’s motion to cancel city funding for the Pride Parade, (seconded by Mayoral Candidate Rob Ford), was passed with an amendment (vote was 33 for 3 against). Last year the city gave a total of $196,000.00 towards the parade! Your letters, phone calls, prayers and presence today made a definite difference! There was an attempt by the Speaker to “refer this motion to committee” which one councilor said would cause the motion to be “buried in debate”. Because there had been so much public input and because there were enough people in the room today, the Councilor was able to ask the Speaker to allow this motion with amendment to be voted on today and that request was granted. At the request of all the city councillors, who had already discussed this issue at length, the vote was taken without any discussion at all and passed. The motion carried states that in the future there will be no automatic city funding for the Pride Parade until after the parade takes place to see if the organizers of the parade have complied with city regulations. This is a clear statement that hate propaganda groups such as “Queers Against Apartheid Israel” will not be allowed to intimidate others and receive funding using your tax dollars. Once the vote was taken people in the audience and the councillors themselves seemed very relieved that this was over – then several councilors and people in the audience clapped out loud and most of the audience then got up and left.
Last Saturday, the day before the Pride Parade, a significant act of repentance by 5 city pastors and others took place on the streets of Toronto at 6 a.m. Repentance for our own sins, for the sins of the generation who opened the door to false sexual freedom (the Hippies) – repentance for the way we, the Church, have handled this situation – and repentance on behalf of those currently involved in perversion in the city. Perhaps we will now begin to see many breakthroughs such as this one today. God bless you for your prayers and support. sincerely, Lynn, Hosanna Toronto
