Nuclear advocates shouldn’t lie about CO2 and “greenhouse gases”

Nuclear advocates don’t need to lie about CO2 and “greenhouse gases”

Nuclear energy is an excellent option for numerous reasons. Advocates of it do a good job at countering myths and fears such as those related to radiation exposure and waste disposal. Because nuclear energy is a recognized “clean” energy option, many nuclear industry personnel also unfortunately ride the junk science – or religious fundamentalism – of global warming. They can claim that more use of nuclear energy will reduce “greenhouse emissions,” and because that’s a popular mantra with the general public, they push this dishonest message. It does nothing for their credibility, but it’s seen as a necessary marketing message.

Maybe some of these nuclear experts actually believe such nonsense. John Ritch, Director General of the World Nuclear Association, may be one person who really does believe the snake-oil of global warming because, in a column published several months ago in a nuclear energy insert of the National Post, he pulls out his rhetorical arsenal. Building his case for nuclear energy, he writes: “Today the world economy is producing greenhouse gas emissions at the rate of 30 billion tonnes per year. Our best Earth-system scientists warn that greenhouse emissions, if continued at this massive scale, will yield consequences that are – quite literally – apocalyptic: increasingly radical temperature changes, a worldwide upsurge in violent weather events, widespread drought, flooding, wildfires, famine, species extinction, rising sea levels, mass migration and epidemic disease that will leave no country untouched.”

We haven’t checked, but John Ritch backwards might spell, “David Suzuki on steroids”! How many meds does this poor fellow take to sleep at night?? It’s very unfortunate that trusted officials like this are so willing to exploit fear and regurgitate nonsense to advance their own economic interests.
