No new trial for killer who disembowelled man
Winnipeg Free Press
A Winnipeg killer who once referred to his dismembered victim as a “human trophy” has lost his bid for a new trial. The Manitoba Court of Appeal said Tuesday it would not overturn a second-degree murder conviction against Sydney Teerhuis, whose lawyer had cited more than a dozen legal grounds to argue for a conviction on the lesser charge of manslaughter. … Teerhuis claims he blacked out and has no memory of the attack, in which Robin Green was stabbed, beheaded, castrated, disembowelled and cut into eight pieces inside the Royal Albert Arms Hotel just hours after they randomly met at a bar. … Teerhuis claimed in letters written to a Winnipeg man to have taken sexual gratification from killing Greene. The two men shared drinks and then went back to Teerhuis’s room at the hotel for sex.
